The timetable is subject to change as the preparation progresses.
- Spring 2025
- A memorandum by the Finnish National Agency for Education working group is submitted to the Matriculation Examination Board, after which a consultation round is organised.
- The Board establishes a section responsible for preparing tests in arts and practical subjects.
- Autumn 2025
- A preliminary view is formed on the principles and practical arrangements of the preparatory competence demonstration.
- Spring 2026
- A preliminary outline of the preparatory competence demonstration is presented to teachers and other stakeholders.
- General upper secondary schools may pilot the outline of the preparatory competence demonstration and provide feedback.
- Adjustments to the demonstration are planned in cooperation with stakeholders.
- Autumn 2026
- A view is formed on test-specific regulations and related sample tasks, including the preparatory competence demonstration and the written test.
- Spring 2027
- Statements are requested on the draft regulations and sample tasks.
- The Matriculation Examination Board’s General Assembly adopts the regulations based on the feedback received.
- Autumn 2027
- Candidates may apply for special arrangements for the tests.
- General upper secondary schools receive information on the facilities, equipment and materials required for test arrangements.
- Spring 2028
- The examination dates for autumn 2029 are decided.
- The work of the preparatory section ends, and its responsibilities are transferred to the Matriculation Examination Board’s established bodies in the form of new sections.
- Autumn 2028
- A nationwide mock test is organised.
- Adjunct members are appointed for censoring.
- Spring 2029
- Enrolments for the new tests are received.
- Autumn 2029
- The first tests in arts and practical subjects are organised.
- Test performances proceed in accordance with the multi-stage process of the Matriculation Examination.
